Meet Our Board

Lori Harmon, board president
Mrs. Harmon is a supervisor for Usborne Children’s Books a division of Educational Development Corporation. A mother of five, she has homeschooled her children for five years. Mrs. Harmon has used the K¹² Curriculum for three years. Mrs. Harmon holds a bachelor of art degree in political science from Brigham Young University. She has been a co-op teacher in science, history, and literature and a Cub Master for Boy Scouts of America. Mrs. Harmon completed a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Lilian Mendoza Dyer, secretary
Mrs. Dyer has experience tutoring students at Brigham Young University and UVSC. She has firsthand experience in the development of academic programs using the latest technology, and she is an advocate of enhancing education with the use of technology. Mrs. Dyer holds an associate degree in data processing and a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Brigham Young University. She uses the K¹² curriculum to educate her children, and she believes this experience will be useful as the Utah Virtual Academy expands to serve students statewide.

Dallis A. Nordstrom
Dallis A. Nordstrom is a lawyer who focuses on civil litigation at Young Hoffman, LLC in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she is a partner. She previously served as general counsel for HOWA, a regional construction and development company founded in 1951. Before joining HOWA Mrs. Nordstrom worked as an associate with Bruce R. Baird, widely regarded as an expert in land use law and litigation in Utah. Mrs. Nordstrom has also been an advisor, lobbyist, consultant and campaign manager for various state, municipal, and issue-oriented campaigns. She received her juris doctorate from the SJ Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, where she was awarded best oralist and best team in the national Burton D. Wechsler First Amendment Moot Court Competition, and received her bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Utah.

Douglas Shaw, chairman of the Finance Committee

Mr. Shaw has 17 years of professional experience in school management, human resources and development of teacher-building programs. Doug was the assistant superintendent at the Santa Clara Office of Education and the principal of the Metropolitan Education District in San Jose, Calif. Mr. Shaw has a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Brigham Young University and a Master of Science in administration from California State University. Mr. Shaw holds a K-12 teacher credential and has experience serving exceptional students.

Karen Rackliffe
Mrs. Rackliffe is an advocate of advancing educational options in Utah. Karen is a seminar speaker for homeschooling conferences in Utah, California, Oregon, Nevada, Texas, Massachusetts and Virginia. She speaks on topics related to art, science, language arts and journaling. Mrs. Rackliffe was a private art instructor in Utah and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in independent studies with a minor in sociology from Brigham Young University.

Lincoln Fillmore
Mr. Fillmore is a career education reformer with experience as a teacher, principal, and business manager.
